Yes, if you're good enough and play in a highly organized group.

Arcanist isn't the best dps for all encounters, but it has the highest floor. It's the safe bet for open trials, so RLs tend to favor it.

It's not just about the individual player, but also the group. In a highly organized group, I can dps as well on other classes as my arcanist, but in a typical group, arcanist makes poor positioning less relevant.

I can lead dps on single target encounters and even trash packs on my dk in one trial, but in another less organized one I'll be 20% lower than the arcs.

With that said, it definitely dominates the dps role in the trial community.

It doesn't matter if arcanist is currently the strongest class. Every class can complete any content in the game.

I find it easier to do harder content solo on my sorc or temp. I just miss the evenly killed aoe from heavies splash. Arc is much cleaner for AOE farms, while sorc got me flawless conquerer.

Even at the higher end of content there is a wide gap between dps. If I join a hardcore group I am more towards the middle or even bottom when in most groups I'm mid to higher. Definitely humbles ya some. 😳

I can think of one really great reason... Mechanically, Arcanists quickly become so boring to play.

Current optimal raid group contains 5-8 arcanists. That is absolutely absurd lopside towards a single class. Please change this. I am tired of two buttons gameplay.

I wouldn't say it can compete. It can clear, though.

I agree, if your goal is to prog the hardest trifectas, like Dreadsail or Rockgrove, 99% of groups aren't really going to want to take a Stamblade for example, or a Warden DPS.

You can elect to not run whatever is close to meta but it makes it harder, and if your goal is to get the achievements, why would you want something that's already hard to be harder?

OP was asking about the relevance of other DD classes in 2024.
I don't they were seeking a debate on arcanist's relevance or usefulness.

I suspect he already knows enough about arcanist.

in pve? No. Of course many of us could and have played many classes as DD. Ive played almost everything over the years in various pve content, as well as pvp. But why not use the most brain dead easy class? that does nearly as much, if not more, damage than the other classes that take more effort. Just sit and beam your way though everything. Its so brainless but hey ill take full advantage of it.

Can I roll an arcanist and pull almost 4 times the DPS? Yes, I actually have one that does that, but unfortunately it suffers from this issue known as being really boring to play, so I don't play it

Have you tried velothi and azureblight? Stamplar is near or better to Arcanist depending on how well you have mastered it.

Axureblight is dot proc, jabs is direct damage, aka not a dot, so it doesn't it work

Also the heck kinda wack ass spec you running on stamplars that can match the 49.7k/tick you get on arcanist beam?

Bows, dual wield, or 2h should all be able to proc azureblight, can't they? They rebalanced bows somewhat recently. Templar beam is actually very powerful as well with the change like a year ago, pushing them into stronger single target. Just because you're stam doesn't mean you cannot use some mag abilities. Personally I main a magplar, more my style but I think Templar and DK are still up there. Arcanist is just much more new user friendly and more of a aoe/cleave specialist. I am not opposed to jab buffs though, I can't play it at the levels I see others able to with mine.

Even when looking at scorepushing we still see other classes than arcanist. Yes, arcanist dd is popular for a reason but it's not the only dd class you have in a team if you want to optimise.

Interestingly enough I see more arcanists in the "mid level" teams who basically just put together as many of them as they can find.

True, there are some places you bring one templar DD in endgame.

DK is valid but in most content it's hard to justify more than one due to aoe being king.
