Our system will set the bar for the transformation of U.S. healthcare into a fellowship that elevates the joy of healthy living for all of us.”As part of an assignment in my recent leadership class, we were asked to write our ideal vision statement; one that encompasses our values and goals and one that we would be inspired to work towards. This was my vision statement.After the class I got to thinking a lot about who I am as a physician, what my goals were when I started my career, and where things stand now. As I shared my vision statement with the class (who, by the way are all physicians as well), I heard a few small claps and looked up to see quite a few nodding heads and smiles. It was a significant moment for me. It was acknowledgement that our current system has lost its way and that many of us, who “signed up” to make the world a better place as doctors, are frustrated by the current direction that journey has taken. But it was also acknowledgement that there are a lot of other doctors out there who desperately want to see our system change for the better, and they are game to play a role in making that change happen.So take a minute today and ask yourself: What is your Vision statement?#change #healthcare #betterworld

The step is lighter, the pace quicker, the posture just a wee bit taller, and yes the smile doesn't seem to leave my face. Leapt to the next chapter: semi-retired professional status. Many of you know I have struggled with this concept. Largely because of the crew at Collaborative Health - some of the most devoted people to the mission of health care transformation.First, all the very best to the crew at Collaborative Health Systems, they are some of the very best people I have come across in all of my personal and professional travels. Many of them will be the next rock stars of the industry. I will always be available to help untangle some knotted complexity.Second, being able to focus on the projects I want vs. need or direction of others; what a difference. There have been many start ups, ideas, and insights that I have had to pass on as they didn't fit into available bandwidth, evolutionary status or context with CHS. I look forward accelerating these efforts to their best position in the system. Stay tuned, there will be more.

WHAT VALUE DO YOU BRING?Once I was asked this question and maybe it’s just me that would feel like this because It struck a chord, sending me on a whirlwind of emotions, pondering the years and contributions made.But in a characteristic move, typical of YHWH whom I belong to, the one who wastes nothing. In that moment I decided to be better at whatever I do and sculpt my mark in a way that renders that question unnecessary.I took that stone hurled at me and fashioned it into a foundational cornerstone. I have spent 25 years in the healthcare industry, both as a practitioner and also as a business owner, creating new systems of care. I have seen and watched the evolution of the care model for a very long time. What I see now is that we are at a tipping point that everybody is recognizing. The way that we have done care, the framework we have used, and the methods we are applying are old, dying, and inadequate. In this talk I'm going to cover what the problems are with the current landscape of care. How the care system is still inadvertently creating harm. How there are great people in the system who are burned out and don’t know what to do. When you have big goals, it’s easy to lose touch with how far you have come and to feel overwhelmed by how much there is still to do.Sharing our wins with others blends into another principle I use a lot in my healthcare change leadership work called Pearson’s Law👇✨ When performance is measured, it improves. When performance is measured and REPORTED, it improves exponentially.✨In the “Wins of the week” practice we are not just reporting a result. The road to success is not always a straight one 🛣️As health care professionals and private practice owners, we shoulder a remarkable responsibility to not just care for, but also to uplift and inspire the people we serve. This noble cause is often marked with challenges, but each one offers us an opportunity to learn, to grow, and to make a meaningful difference.Remember, the road to success is not always a straight one. It's filled with turns, roadblocks, and sometimes - dead ends. But every setback is a setup for an even greater comeback.
